There are strong indications that the president, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari may extend the lock down order in Lagos, Ogun and the federal capital territory, Abuja.

This was made known by the chairman of the Presidential Task Force and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha in a press statement.

Recall that Buhari on March 29 ordered the lockdown for an initial period of 14 days to control and tackle the spread of corona virus pandemic which as of that day Nigeria had only 111 cases of COVID-19 with one death according to the NCDC. Which as  night of Friday April, 10, 2020 has increased to 305 in the country while 58 patients had been discharged and seven death recorded.

However the possiblity of extending the lockdown was proclaimed on Friday April, 10, 2020, following a meeting between president buhari and members of the PTF on coronavirus, led by secretary to the government of federation, boss mustapha.

Speaking at the media briefing, Mustapha said,

“The PTF, a small committee of us, this afternoon, had the privilege of further briefing Mr President on the assessment of our response to COVID-19 and, at the appropriate moment, we will continue to adequately inform Nigerians of government decisions.”

“The decision on whether to extend the lockdown or not is exclusively the decision or responsibility of the President. Ours (the PTF) is to provide him with first-hand information that would inform that decision. So, I cannot speculate on that now. But looking at what is happening in other climes, you would be able to deduce what might likely happen, but I’m not in a position to speculate on that.” He furthered.

Meanwhile, Nigerian News World reported yesterday that the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the federal government has not lifted the lockdown order in the affected states. He therefore encouraged the residents of the state to celebrate Easter in the corner of their room and observe digital service.
