Bauchi cleric says they sighted moon on Friday, so they observed Eid prayers on Saturday.
Regardless of the directive given by the Presdent of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, some sect of Muslim community in Bauchi went ahead to observe the Eid prayers on Saturday.
The sultan of Sokoto who doubles as the president of NSCIA gave directives that Eid prayers should hold on Sunday, but the directives was kicked against in Bauchi.
Some sects of Muslim in Bauchi who observed the Eid today said they sighted moon on Friday, so they had to observed Eid prayers on Saturday.
When asked why he observed Eid prayers today, a foremost Islamic preacher, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, explained that he decided to observe the Eid having been convinced that the moon was sighted and confirmed by many others of his adherents.
While explaining the development shortly after the prayers, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi said that “the issue of moon sighting needs integrity and honesty. We got confirmed and honest information about the sighting of the new moon of the month of Shawa’al, that was the reason we had the Eid prayer today.”
Nigeria Tribune reported.
The renowned cleric went ahead to defend his integrity saying their no crime or castigation in what he and his adherents did.
Recall that the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria earlier called on all Muslims to be on the look out for new moon which signifies the end of Ramadan.
