President Mohammadu Buhari yesterday appends the terminates NECO registrar, Prof. Charles Uwakwe and other staffs of the council.
This was contained in a statement made available to the Nigerian News Agency, NAN by the Head of Information and Public Relations Division of the council, Mr. Azeez Dani.
Prof. Charles Uwakwe, who is the Chief Executive of the Commission was laid off on account of violation of the Public Procurement Act of 2007 and pursuant to PSR 030402 and part 1 schedule 4 (i) of NECO Establishment Act.
The termination letter dated May 11 May, 2020 was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Sonny Echono on behalf of the Education Minister.
He said, “Part of the letter reads: “after due consideration of the investigative panel on the allegation of unsatisfactory conduct levelled against you and some Management Staff of the Council, Mr President in exercise of his powers, has approved your removal as Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of National Examinations Council with effect from the date of your suspension from duty”.
Recall that the removed Chief Executive alongside two management staff has been on suspension since May 10, 2018 on account of the same offence.
However, Uwakwe has been directed to hand over all government properties in his custody to the AG. Registrar of the council.

Sani Azeez also confirm the removal of four other management staff of the council on account of various offenses.
The staffs laid off includes the Acting Director (Finance and Accounts), Mr Bamidele Olure, Head of Procurement Division, Dr. Shina Adetona, Deputy Director Mr. Tayo Odukoya, and Mr BabatunAdetona who is the Head of Legal/Board matters.
