Nigerian Senate demands review of power privatization; request reversal of the privatization process.
The Senate on Tuesday demanded that the Federal Government review the power privatization plan or if possible reverse the entire process.
The senate president, Senator Ahmed Lawan made this known after the Senate considered the motion raised by Senator Gabriel Suswan.
Senate claims that Nigerians will not in the next ten years enjoy a stable power supply if the plan is not reviewed.
According to Punchng, Lawan said;
“We gave power to them (power generation and distribution companies) and they still come to the public to ask for funds.”
“I think it’s time for Nigeria to consider reversing the privatisation of the power sector or they should just cancel the entire privatisation process completely.” He added.
According to Lawan, the power privatization plan has so far not been productive as Nigerians expects a far better and efficient power supply.
More so, the Senate also call on the Federal Government to abort the plan to increase electricity tariff which is set to commence by July.
Claiming there has been an increase in hardship and poverty level in the country brought by the advent of COVID-19 pandemic.
