The President of NSCIA has called on Nigerians to watch out for new moon ahead Sallah celebration.
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who also doubles has the Presdent of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has call on all Muslims to watch out for new moon on Friday.
This was contained in a statement by the Deputy General Secretary of NSCIA, Prof. Salisu Shehu yesterday.
In the statement, the Sultan of Sokoto announced the need to watch out for the Shawwal moon as Sallah celebration will be on Friday which is Ramadan 29.
In a report by The Nation, Sultan Salisu said the notice is in respect to the advice given by the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC).
He stated that May 22, which is equivalent to Ramadan 29, 1441 AH is the first day to look for the Crescent of Shawwal, 1441 AH.
He said: “Following the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), Friday, May 22, which is equivalent to Ramadan 29, 1441 AH is the first day to look for the Crescent of Shawwal, 1441 AH.
However, on that day, the moon will set few minutes before the sun which makes the sighting of the crescent practically impossible.”
He therefore felicitated with the Muslim worldwide on the celebration of 1441 AH Ramadan fast.
Sultan Abubakar reminded the Muslim faithful to pay Zakatul-Fitri and also ensure it gets to the right people and guide against diversion.
