Just in: Israel launches airstrikes on Syria

Israel on Thursday launched several airstrikes over the northwestern Hama province, the Syria state media has reported.

According a Britain based war monitor, nine people were killed of which four were Syria. It was however unable to determine the affiliation of those killed, but said they may be part of the regime forces or Iranian-backed militias.

According to the source, the strikes targeted warehouses belonging to the Syrian defence industries causing heavy damages.

The air strikes is the latest in a multiple attacks in Syria in the past week which has been attributed to Israel.

This attacks is coming amidst Corona virus pandemic ravaging the region along side the tensions rising between Lebanon and Israel along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Earlier, the state media reported that its air defenses intercepted what they called “hostile targets” over Hama and stated no casualties were recorded. It was quoted as saying, “our air defenses have responded to an attack by the Israeli enemy over Misyaf” according to SANA news agency.

Syria has continuously accused Israel of carrying out several airstrikes of atleast seven of them in the past two weeks targeting Iranian and proxy interest in the region.

Lebanese Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, on Wednesday remarked that Israel has violated Lebanese sovereignty by land, sea and air by more than 1,000 times in the last one month alone.

An intelligent sources monitoring situations in the region has accused Israel of increasing its raids in Syria despite the period the world attention and the region including Syria were distracted by covid-19 pandemic.

According to western intelligence sources, Iranian-backed militias have long been entrenched in Aleppo province where they have bases presence across government-controlled Syria.

Multiple raids carried out in Syria which have killed thousands of people and destroyed properties in recent years were therefore acknowledged by Israel for being responsible since the start of the Civil War in the country in 2011 citing reason that the presence of Iran in the country is a strategic threat.
