Kogi bank robbery: police officers, civilians killed

A DPO, five policemen and two women were reported dead at the Kogi bank robbery on Thursday.

Nine persons were feared killed on Thursday in Isanlu, Kogi State when a gang of armed robbers launched an attack on first bank branch located in the town. The victims were reported to include eight police officers and a civilian.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Division Police Officer (DPO), five policemen and two police women were among those that were killed.

According to sources, the DPO and eight other officers were killed in the police station while one policeman was killed at the premises of the bank including a male civilian who died as a result of stray bullet that heat him.

The armed robbers invaded the police state at about 1:00pm with a bus and a car and started shooting at all officers and men on duty.

The source further reported that the police station was completely destroyed by the enraging armed robbers who also set free all detainees in the detention facility.

An eye witness, Segun Thomas who was privy to the incident was quoted as saying, “the robbers came in two vehicles – a bus and a car with which they also escaped after the operation”.

The spokesman of the police command in Kogi State, William Aya, confirmed the robbery case and the invasion of police station in the state, he however added that the casualty figure was still unsubstantiated.

He further added that the state Commissioner of police, Ede Ayuba has dispatched the Deputy commissioner of police in charge of the operation to Isanlu to ascertain the true situation.

He promised that more information will be avail to the public as the unfold.
