– Senator Shehu Sani to forfeit his bail grant if he doesn’t appear in court on the adjourned date.
– Shehu Sani was sued on a two-count criminal charge by the EFCC.
The federal high court sitting in Abuja has threatened to revote the bail granted the former senator of the federation, Shehu Sani if he fails to appear in court on the next adjourned date.
Senator Sani is currently facing a two-count criminal charges laid on him by the Economic and Financial Crime Commision, EFCC, for obtaining a sum of 25,000.00 USD from one Alhaji Sani Dauda of ASD Motors, Kaduna, under a false pretence that he would use the sum to bribe the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, to shield Dauda from EFCC’s investigation and prompt the Commission to arrest and prosecute one Abubakar Musa who is having an issue with Dauda.
The Court’s decision was based on the appeal made by the senator’s defense counsel, A.A. Ibrahim, SAN, saying his client was absent because there’s a movement restriction in his residence area as someone died of COVID-19 and as a result, the Kaduna State government placed movement restriction in the area.
“My Lord, the defendant is unavoidably absent in court today because one of his neighbours died of COVID-19, and the government of Kaduna State placed a restriction of movement in the area, hence making him absent. In the circumstance, we are pleading with the court to give us a date,” he said.
However, the prosecuting counsel was not pleased by this plea by the defense counsel to adjourn the case, Abba Mohammed argued that he had two witnesses in the court with one of them also from the same Kaduna.
The trial Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo thereafter adjourned the case till July 6,7,8 and 9, 2020 for the continuation of trial.
