Corruption in EFCC: Allegations against me a mere trump up to tarnish my image - Magu

The embattled suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Mr Ibrahim Magu has dismissed the corruption Allegations leveled against him as a mere trump up Allegations to tarnish his image and that of the EFCC and as well as frustrate the current aggressive fight against corruption by him.

Magu disclosed this on Thursday evening after he was released from detention by the presidential panel committee investigating various corruption allegation leveled against him by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr Abubakar Malami.

In his word,

“They are nonsense. They are mere trump up allegations to tarnish my image and that of the EFCC. I did not steal or divert or convert funds to private use. I read the allegations and I was shocked. I thank Nigerians for their support, they should not be discouraged”.

Remember Mr Ibrahim Magu was on last week Monday arrested by officers of DSS and taking to the Presidential Villa where he has been undergoing interrogation by the presidential panel headed by the former president of the court of appeal Justice Ayo Salami over multiple corruption charges leveled against him by AGF Malami.

According to a statement made available to channels television by Mr Magu’s lawyer Toyin Ojaomo confirmed that the suspended EFCC chief is no longer in detention.

Mr Oluwatoyin Ojaomo, Magu’s lawyer had on Wednesday asked the IGP to grant bail to his client on “self-recognition” after the suspended EFCC chief had spent four days in custody.

But in a letter dated July 14,2020 and addressed to Mr Ojaomo, the IGP said the police force is not investigating nor detaining Magu, advising him to redirect his request to the Chairman of the presidential panel for appropriate attention.

The source cannot confirm whether Mr Magu was release following the request from his lawyer to that effect.
