In Obaseki’s view, it was unbelievable that President Buhari could endorse Ize-Iyamu despite being tried for N700m corruption charge.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki sympathised with Buhari over the endorsement.

The governor commented that the Buhari’s endorsement was just to please the All Progressive Congress.

The governor’s statement reads for your perusal: “President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday was confronted with a dilemma of no mean proportion, to raise the hand of Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the APC in the September 19 gubernatorial election taking place in Edo State.

“The President was constrained to carry out the action, which indeed was a dilemma.

“We sympathise with the President, who reluctantly handed the APC candidate, the party’s flag and unveiled him behind closed doors.”

This report is incomplete without taking cognizance of President’s Buhari’s approval of Ize-Iyamu as the APC candidate which took place on Friday at the presidential villa in Abuja.

When making the endorsement the president appealed to the leaders of the party to give their candidate their utmost support to achieve success in the coming election.

It is thus official that the main contenders in the coming election in Edo state are the current governor, Godwin Obaseki of PDP and Ize-Iyamu of the APC.
