It is not untrue that the internet has become an abode of fake and unverified news which are detrimental to the security of the country and that of individuals.
However, the Nigerian Army in her relentless effort curb the incessant occurrence of this barbaric act has birthed the nationwide seminar between the Nigeria Army officials and the online media practitioners.
The seminar started in the last quarter of 2018 in Port Harcourt has birthed the tenth edition of such, hosted in the state of Osun under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
The seminar which lasted for about 10 hours hosted online media practitioners across the state in an interactive session with the Nigeria army officials.
Present at the interactive seminar was the chief of Army State, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Buratai, ably represented by the Chief of Policy and Plan of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Gen. T. O. Adeosun.
Lt. Gen. Adeosun led other top military officers to the meeting. Also in attendance was the governor of the state, Governor Oyetola who in his address urged media practitioners to desist from spreading unverified news.
Also present was the imperial ruler of Kuta, the Olowu of Kuta who was lauded enormously for his relentless support for the Nigerian army.
The seminar was organized in relation with the non-kinetic operational arm of the Nigerian army and it is primarily aimed at preventing unverified and fake news which are detrimental to the peace of the country.
At the end of the seminar, the Nigerian army were encouraged to create a more accessible source of information in order to prevent further spread of fake news.
