The Inspector General of Police, IGP M. A. Adamu has sent a powerful warning to the politicians in Edo and Ondo States to be in good conduct in the process of the gubernatorial elections in the two states.
IGP Adamu urged the political parties in the two state to desist from violence and thuggery as the police will not allow any form of misconducts in the electoral process.
The IGP gave the warning following a thorough review of the Election Security Threat Assessment Reports submitted by the Commissioner of police in the two states.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, The Election Security Threat Analysis reveals potential violence in the upcoming elections in the states.
According to a statement by the Nigeria Police, the security force revealed that the report, amongst other, showed that:
“Arming and movement of political thugs, use of inciting statements during political campaigns, high likelihood of violence and possible cross attack by political opponents, misinformation/disinformation aimed at heating-up of the polity and deliberate efforts at delegitimizing government institutions involved in the electoral processes.” The state read.
Having gone through the reports, the IGP therefore urged the Commissioner of Police in the two states, Ondo and Edo states, to restrengthen their preparation to see to a safe and peaceful electoral conduct.
Adamu further urged the political parties and their supported to desist from violent acts in the course of the election as Nigeria Police will not tolerate any form of misconduct.

Pledging the neutrality of the police in the September and October elections in Edo and Ondo respectively, the IGP assured the residents of the two states that Police will do everything possible to ensure a peaceful and safe electoral process.
