ASUU Debunk remours, says strike still ongoing

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has debunked remours making rounds that it has suspended the ongoing industrial actions as it affirms the strike still continues.

ASUU made the clarification in a tweet made available on the official Twitter page.

The union, while responding to a report by My School News, said it has not suspended the ongoing industrial actions embarked upon by the union since March.

The media outlet earlier reported that ASUU has suspended its ongoing strike actions which began in March, just before the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

ASUU on its part, stated that it can not suspend the strike without following the due protocols, which it says that none of the protocols has been observed.

The tweet reads; “Contrary to speculations making the rounds in the social media by @myschoolnews_Ng that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off strike, nothing of such is true

“Commenting on the development, the Chairman of the University of Lagos, UNILAG chapter of the union, Dr Dele Ashiru, said that nothing of such happened. If we are going to call off our going strike, there is process that will be followed and nothing of such has been done.”

Meanwhile, the university students across the country are hoping to resume upon the directives of the federal government after the COVID-19 pandemic had prompted closure of universities.

However, the government’s directive would be ineffective if ASUU did not revert their industrial actions.
