The Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH, has denounce having the Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine with them.
FMOH released this information as a clarification of an earlier statement released on Friday as regards the Russian Ambassador’s visit to the ministry on Friday.
The statement signed by the ministry’s director of information, media and publicity stated that the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Alexey L. Shebarshin who visited the ministry on Friday did not present the vaccine.
Rather, he presented an aide memoir for the ministry and Nigerian team to study and to aid further research.
The statement titled “Clarification on Russian-Made COVID-19 Vaccine” reads;
“Following an earlier press release made today, Friday, 4th September, 2020 on the courtesy visit by the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Alexey L. Shebarshin to the Nigeria’s Health Ministers to hand over an aide memoire on the recently announced Russian-made COVID-19, the Ministry’s Media and Public Relations Unit wishes to correct the impression that the Russian-made COVID-19 Vaccine has been handed over to the Health authorities in Nigeria.
“What was handed over was an aide memoir to enable the Nigerian team study and get ready for further researches, patronage and application.
“The Russian-made COVID-19 being still in the custody of the Russian Federation’s Embassy in Nigeria, we have been corrected, to see it as still being with the Russians and not with the Nigerian health authorities.”
The COVID-19 pandemic which broke in China since 2019 and goes globally in 2020 has infected over 4 million in Europe with Nigeria case closing in on reaching 55,000.
Many efforts have been put in place to produce a vaccine and as at the time of this report, no vaccine has been confirmed even after many attempts and clinical trials.
