The Man United Gaffer was irritated that his promising teenager Mason Greenwood was included in the Three Lions squad for August international matches after a long season with barely any break.
The United Boss criticized England’s Head Coach Gareth Southgate and English FA for calling up the young striker after he had asked for him to be rested. Mason Greenwood earned his first senior cap for England after coming on from the bench in his country’s win against Iceland.
“The kid had a fantastic season; he’s just come through, we’ve worked really hard to give Mason enough time on the pitch, exposure in the media.
“Then you come to the end of the season, and we’ve had less than two weeks off, and he’s called up. I tried my best to give him rest over the summer. We asked specifically that he should have a rest; he needs it mentally and physically, and first, that happens he’s called up, and he’s right there in the press. We’ve done what we can to protect him; I’ve done what I can to help him when he comes back into the daily routine, he’ll be fine.” Solskjaer said to a reporter.
The Youngster trained alone when he returned to the AON Carrington training center due to the Country’s COVID-19 restrictions. Still, he has joined up with the rest of the squad and is in contention to play in the Man United match against Crystal Palace tomorrow.
The Head Coach also added that “This is where he feels at home, not comfortable, we challenge him, he’s got people looking after him. I had a plan with him throughout the season, and it worked really well.
“He needed a rest, I looked at the interview he had with England, and he is talking about maybe looking back at this season when it is over. And that is actually on the first day of his new season. We have to understand he’s an 18-year-old kid who needs managing.”
