Our credibility is of the lowest ebb – Pinnick speaks on his CAF presidential ambition

The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju PINNICK, has made some clarifications on his decision to run for the Presidential Seat of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) come 2021.

Pinnick who feels there are lots of wrongs in the CAF system and politics, said there are several factors to determine if he truly will vy for the post of allow the incumbent president a second term.

According to a report by VANGUARD, Pinnick wanted the incumbent caf president to Ahmad Ahmad, to run for the second term, or even a third term, but elements of doubt has set in which makes him (Pinnick) to have a rethink.

“From the beginning, the idea was to have the incumbent Ahmad to get re-elected for a second tenure or even a third tenure,” Pinnick told BBC Sport Africa.

“But the issue of trust started coming in and that’s what led to the initial breakdown (with Ahmad) but in football politics, you never say never.”

However, the 49-year-old NFF president refused to give further details of his relationship with Ahmad, but NIGERIA NEWS WORLD gathered that he lost his vice-president seat without explanation.

Speaking further, Pinnick challenged the credibility of CAF, as he says it’s at its lowest ebb, stating further that the composition of CAF has lost its integrity.

Hence, the need for him to have a solid reconsideration of his bid for the CAF apex seat.

“The truth is that you need to look at indexes, you have to look at your family – family is the most prized asset that I have – so for example if my family said “don’t” then I won’t,” he insisted.

“Then you have your larger family which is your football family – your exco your congress – if they decide to give you the go-ahead then you go to the government. “Then from the government, you also look at some of your friends, it is not easy you have to consult your zone, you have to consult your colleagues because they are the voters.

“You have to let them know that even if you get elected we will need to look at the reality.

“What is the reality? There are a lot of things wrong fundamentally in Caf right now – our credibility is at the lowest ebb our integrity is nowhere to be found – so we have a lot of challenges unless we keep deceiving ourselves.
