The Uruguayan was defended by his superstar former teammate Lionel Messi following his shocking move to La-Liga giant Atletico Madrid.
The 33-year old prolific goal-scorer joined Diego Simeone side in a €6 million deal on Wednesday, after his six years stint at Camp Nou.
Prior to his departure, world best player Messi slammed the Camp Nou board; saying his former colleague was falsefully ”kicked out” and “nothing surprises” him anymore.
Suarez, who had a six trophy-laden seasons, said he feels so proud he left a positive impression and glad his friend Messi knows it.
“Leo knows me well and is well aware of my level of conviction. It’s a source of pride to be able to to leave a positive legacy behind me,”
“I have now moved on and joining this competitive side is a major motivation.” he told reporters.
The former golden shoe winner also spoke of his motivation in joining Atletico Madrid.
He said; “The motivation of coming to a great from Spain, Atletico is, it has great players, a competitive block that always fights to be at the top and for the league.”
“The fans and the coach Diego Simeone motivate a lot too.”
The Atletico fans will hope to see their new signing in their 2020/21 season first match against Granada on Sunday
