#EndSARS: Ruling APC accused PDP of creating SARS, lauds Buhari

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of creating the embattled Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the police force, which the popular demand has crumpled down.

The APC spokesman, Yekini Nabena in a series of tweets on Sunday, blamed the opposition party of creating such an havoc by creating SARS.

While he lauded the APC administration for disbanding the squad, he described the action as the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to reform the entire police force.

Reacting to the disbandment of SARS by the IGP, he was reportedly tweeted; “Who created SARS? PDP”

The APC spokesman further charged civil society organizations and the whole of Nigerians to support the IGP to ensure a reformed Police Force.

The statement reads, “The APC welcomes the disbandment of the Special Anti Robbery Squad and views the responsive decision as a major and concrete step towards. President Muhammadu Buhari affirmed resolve to achieve better policing and necessary reforms.

“From the recent #BlackLivesMatter social movement to other global clamours for review of police operations particularly in regard to citizens they are empowered to protect, the need for police reforms in Nigeria is urgent and continuous.

“With benefit of experience and public outcry over the operations of the now disbanded SARS, the APC is confident that the new policing arrangement promised by the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, will balance the need to effectively combat armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country and ensure humane, professional and accountable police operations.

“We call on Nigerians to take advantage of the citizens’ and strategic stakeholders’ forum which is being formed to regularly interface with Police leadership at all levels and advise on police activities as they affect the general public.”

Meanwhile, the president himself is yet to release an official address on the issue as protesters still demand an intervention from the president, especially an order backing the IGP’s decision to disband SARS.

However, the executive order disbanding SARS might be irrelevant in this situation as the SARS is a mere squad in the entire police force without legally or constitutionally backed by the Nigeria Constitution.
