The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, on Friday, granted state pardon to actress Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdurasheed Bello who were earlier convicted by the Court for violating the State’s COVID-19 Regulations.
Recall that Funke, a star actress in the popular TV series: Jennifer’s Diary, was charged alongside her Husband, in April 2020, after she organized a house party that had many celebrities in attendance during the lock down.
Mr. Governor, in a statement, by his Attorney-general and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) said he acted based on the Recommendations of the Lagos State Advisory Council on prerogative of mercy, under the powers conferred on the Governor by section 212(1)&(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The Eight-man advisory council was inaugurated by the Lagos State Governor in December 2019.
In a similar vein, 56 other inmates were recommended to be released on various grounds of ill health, old age, gravity of offence, etc just as they were strongly admonished to stay away from crime and be good citizens.
