Stop Refilling Gas Through Cylinder to Cylinder Method, DPR Warns Gas Retailers

The Department of Petroleum Resources has faulted the refilling process of empty Gas by Liquefied Gas retail outlets through cylinder to cylinder method.

The regulatory arm of the Ministry of Petroleum, gave out this warning during a one-day sensitization meeting with gas retailers on Monday in Adamawa State, Nigeria.

Mr. Ibrahim Sadeq, Operations Controller, Yola DPR Office, said that this warning was to ensure the safety of the people as well as the gas retailers.

“LPG cylinder to cylinder re-bottling, refilling and decanting is prohibited by the Department of Petroleum Resources” he stated.

While noting the dangers associated with such practices, which has resulted in many fire outbreaks accidents in the Country, Mr. Ibrahim, also admonished the gas retailers to put safety measures in their shops as he urged them to register with DPR.

“The transfilling of the resources are not allowed and is against the DPR regulations and requirements because the business is highly hazardous and a threat to the lives and property of the people.”

“All gas retailers are advised to provide protection safety facilities to their workers and the shop.”

“The retailer outlets are advised to register with DPR to obtain approved license.” He further said.

In line with its mandate, the Department of Petroleum Resources reminded the gas retailers that, amongst their role, as stated in the DPR Regulations, were for them to sell a full gas cylinder, either through cylinder exchange or buy a new one.
