The Nigeria President, Retired General Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to the elected president of the United States of America.
Buhari, on Saturday congratulates Joe Biden who has just been elected as the president of the first world country.
In a statement containing the congratulatory message, the president described democracy as the best form of government as it allows for freedom of choice.
He however, reminded the new president of the power hold by the voters as he said they are the most powerful group in democracy as they decide the fate of any politician at the polling boot.
Buhari therefore admonished him to pay respect to people’s will as he takes over the mantle of leadership of the first world country.
The statement reads; “Congratulations to US President-Elect Joe Biden on his election at a time of uncertainty and fear in world affairs. His election is a reminder that democracy is the best form of government because it offers the people the opportunity to change their government by peaceful means.
“In a democracy, the most powerful group are not the politicians, but voters who can decide the fate of the politicians at the polling booth. The main fascination of democracy is the freedom of choice and the supremacy of the will of the people.
“Respect for the will of the people is the very reason why democracy remains the best form of government, despite its limitations from one polity to another, and from one society to another.”
