The Osun state government, under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, has declared Friday, 18th December as Christmas break.
The announcement was made known on Thursday’s evening in a tweet obtained by our currespondent.
According to the tweet signed by the Coordinating director of the Ministry of Education, C. K. Olaniyan, all schools, both public and private schools are to embark on Christmas and New Year vacation, come Friday.
It also disclosed that the directive is in respect with the surging cases of the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s concern on students’ health and wellness.
However, the resumption date for the schools was not released as it is set to be communicated soon.
The tweet reads; “The Government of Osun has directed that all schools (Private and Public) should proceed on Christmas and New year break tomorrow 18/12/2020. The Govt places a high premium on the safety of our citizens generally &students in particular hence this proactive preventive measure.
“Resumption date will be communicated as soon as it’s safe to resume in the New Year. The Ministry of Education wishes all stakeholders in the education sector a merry Christmas and a safe New Year.”
